Starting Items

you start with 475g
Crystalline FlaskTotal Biscuit of RejuvenationHealth PotionMana Potion

Crystalline Flask start is really good and gives us plenty of sustain for the first few waves until we recall for first buy (where it refills itself!) and for the rest of the game. Please note that it cannot be used simultaneously with Health Potion  and Mana Potion - aim to cycle as needed as the potions provide more healing but flasks provides both (although you can pop both potions though at the same time).

Aim to proxy ranged match-ups (Kayle / Teemo) and wherever possible but don't be afraid to initiate fights with melee champions once Rod of Ages is completed and your Insanity Potion (R) and Ghost / Ignite or Exhaust are available.

First Back / First Purchases

Boots of SpeedRuby CrystalSapphire CrystalCatalyst the ProtectorBlasting Wand

First back after the first few waves either proxying or laning you should have enough for at least a pair of Boots of Speed . If farming well, aim to get Blasting Wand to help push waves and/or proxy. Otherwise build components for Catalyst the Protector as completing this early makes use of its HP/mana on level-up passive to provide us with even more sustain.

Core

Rod of AgesBoots of SwiftnessLiandry's Torment

Aim to complete Rod of Ages as soon as possible to start scaling with its stacking passive then complete Boots of Swiftness ASAP. Then build either Liandry's Torment.

Completing both alongside Rod of Ages and Insanity Potion (R) gives us all the stats we want as Singed and should also be around the time we start to team-fight in the mid-game. Aim to complete Rylai's Crystal Scepter before Liandry's Torment if you need the disengage or slow to chase down for the kill

Pick 2 to finish build.

Abyssal ScepterZhonya's HourglassFrozen HeartOhmwreckerBanner of CommandTwin Shadows

Once core is completed and boots - pick from the above whichever is best against the enemy team.

Each of these gives us mix of either damage, tank stats or utility for team fights that we want as Singed.

Ohmwrecker is a theorycraft item at the moment is is going to be dependant on your jungler/support, but it can help facilitate dives and its stats aren't horrible for Singed .

I'm personally not a fan of stacking Tear of the Goddess for Archangel's Staff/ Seraph's Embrace however it is an option into tank matchups as we do love stacking mana and its another active for Artifacer but Tear of the Goddess is 700g and delays our Rod of Ages.

It doesn't give us much survivability until fully stacked whereas we have Catalyst the Protector passive for lane. Seraph's Embrace only gives 250 HP with Empowered Bulwark (P) compared to Rod of Ages 650HP (once stacked) + 162HP (from Empowered Bulwark (P) ).

At level 18; we will have base 810 mana (260 lv1 + 45 per lvl). Rod of Ages gives us an additional 650 mana which is less than Seraph's Embrace 1000 mana. However, I find the 500 HP difference is more than worth the 350 mana. The 3% of mana AP passive is nice as well as the shield and will give us 73 AP due to our 2460 mana if we stack both. The shield itself if we're at full mana is slightly more than the HP difference but only gets less as we use our spells. If we only build Seraph's Embrace its additional AP is only 54, which is only 34 AP more than Rod of Ages once stacked.

Summoner Spells

GhostIgniteGhostTeleport

Generally we always want to take Ghost as movement speed is king on Singed .

Secondary summoner spell should ideally be combat orientated so Ignite / Exhaust (if against heavy AA) is ideal and helps provide grievous wounds as we lack it from Insanity Potion (R) and Morellonomicon is not great for us.

We also take Summoner's Wrath in our masteries so these are all upgraded for us.

You can run Teleport instead but I find the movement speed we stack throughout the game provides us enough mobility to clear side waves and rotate for team fights and the combat summoner spell provides a 1v1 threat that we might otherwise lack.

Poison Trail
Mega Adhesive
Fling
Insanity Potion

Always max Poison Trail (Q) , you can afford to leave of a point in Mega Adhesive (W) until at least level 4 as it doesn't ground or root when we flip champions into it and the extra point in Poison Trail (Q) early helps clear waves.

Singed has the best wave clear level 1 and can shove to get to level 2 and Fling (E) your lane opponent into your wave; combined with Ignite or Exhaust can sometimes cheese a first blood.

Quintessence of Movement Speed are your go to Quints every single game as Singed.

The above rune page is a general / safe top lane rune set-up; however seals/glyphs can be swapped for scaling runes depending of match-ups - Seal of Scaling Health / Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist / Seal of Scaling Armor runes generally break even and start to surpass Seal of Health / Glyph of Magic Resist / Seal of Armor runes around level 6.

They can be used instead if the stats they provide as flat runes aren't needed for the laning phase itself or if you are feeling confident and looking to scale harder into the mid/late game for team fights.

UTILITY: 21

Going 21 points into the utility tree provides Singed with very useful stats and/or utility that we either can't buy or get as easily through other methods, and we make use of every point invested very well.

Expanded Mind and 2 points Durability have good synergy together alongside our passive Empowered Bulwark (P) .

Perseverance / Strength of Spirit provides more sustain for lane / into mid game. Meditation alongside Catalyst the Protector allows us to skip picking up a Doran's Ring for mana sustain and helps accelerate us towards Rod of Ages .

Biscuiteer gives us a Total Biscuit of Rejuvenation for even more lane sustain.

Crystalline Flask breaks even when compared to potions and Doran's Ring when we sell it after consuming about 4 charges (so just after 1 refill) and will restore 360 HP / 180 mana per base and can be refilled easily at least 6 times a game quite easily. Doran's Ring costs 55g more and only sells for 22g more (160g vs 138g) than Crystalline Flask and provides 1/6th of its effective HP not accounting for refills.

Try to keep Crystalline Flask in your inventory until your looking to complete 4th / 5th item as its more effective than single components like Ruby Crystal / Sapphire Crystal .

Improved Recall allows us to more quickly reset after a proxy off shoving wave and will be used plenty to help get back to lane and refill our Crystalline Flask.

We could invest 21 points into the offence or defence trees (which is still viable) but we really need mobility due to lacking our modern Noxious Slipstream passive. With this mastery setup we have about 10% additional movement speed out of combat (Wanderer, Nimble,3x Quintessence of Movement Speed ) which stacks on our flat movement speed from Boots of Swiftness - alongside an additional 6% from Twin Shadows makes us very fast, allowing us to move around the map and help dodge skills-shots.

We will have around 445 movement speed without Ghost / Insanity Potion (R) and have around 510 / 650 under the influence of both. Whilst not as fast as modern Singed potentially can be; this requires less let up / drifting between champions. Due to to the lack of general mobility in classic, it will make you very difficult to catch and pin down, especially when spreading Rylai's Crystal Scepter slow via Poison Trail (Q) .

For reference, Master Yi with his Highlander (R) will struggle to catch you.

We also have passive gold income via Greed and Pickpocket to help accelerate our items and power-spikes and has some synergy with Lucky Pick. Pickpocket should be swapped with Explorer if you are 100% going to proxy and/or playing against ranged to help scout the enemy jungle alongside your trinket as you are never going to make use of Pickpocket

Swap Hardiness / Resistance in the Defence tree depending on lane opponents damage type although note that armour generally scales better due to minions/towers and AAs that cannot be dodged unlike some spells.

Summoner's Wrath in the Offense tree is a 1 point wonder as we take both the Ghost and either Ignite or Exhaust summoner spells.

Matchups

Singed plays into most Top match ups quite well as most are currently melee with the exception on Kayle / Teemo.

We are looking to proxy these lanes as Teemo we can out-scale, however Kayle, out-scales us and is near unkillable after 6 due to Intervention (R) without jungle assistance. Kayle is the only top lane champion really worth a ban currently, I think. Kassadin is also ban worthy but is rarely played top.

Singed has amazing wave clear early with Poison Trail (Q) and is one of the best top lane team fighters in the game - even more so with only 60 champions currently available to pick from currently.

Play around enemy jungle using Yellow Trinket / Explorer's Ward to scout them out and assist your team by drawing pressure - don't be afraid to Insanity Potion (R) and Ghost to help clear wave and escape if no team fights are upcoming.

If the enemy jungler has a weak first clear, you can also potentially secure a kill with Ignite off a proxy and can assist with your own jungler invading,

Once you've got Rod of Ages you start to scale like a monster thanks to your Insanity Potion (R) and will generally get a power-spike at level 6 / 11 and 16 alongside each item being completed.

Never fight without Insanity Potion (R) being up and available and aim to fight around Ghost which you are aiming to use alongside Twin Shadows to get on the enemy carry and Fling (E) into your team to burst, to turn the fight into a 4v5. If you are struggling to get on the carry or your carry is struggling with being jumped themselves - aim to peel instead using Mega Adhesive (W) / Fling (E) and Twin Shadows whilst spreading your Poison Trail (Q) amongst the enemy team.

I have over 600K+ mastery on Singed and have been playing him since season 3 originally.
