ClassicRift is under maintenance. Previously published pages are still here to read but signing in and any guide creation features are unavailable temporarily.

Privacy

Last updated 27 July 2026.

ClassicRift is a fan-made community site currently run by one person. Your personal data is never sold, and it is used only to operate the site.

What we collect

Your email address, to create and secure your account, verify it, sign you in, and send password-reset messages you request. It is never shown publicly, used for marketing, shared, or sold.

Your username and what you post. Guides, comments, votes and images you publish are public by nature and shown alongside your username. Drafts are private to you until you publish them.

Basic request data. Like any website, ClassicRift's hosting provider (Vercel) processes the IP address and browser user-agent of each request in order to serve it and to apply rate limits and abuse protection. Your IP address is used to rate-limit sign-ups and sign-in attempts; it is not used to profile you.

Advertising

ClassicRift shows ads to cover hosting costs. Ads are served by Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service.

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads on this site.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to ClassicRift and other sites on the internet.
  • Google may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you view here, and how you interact with ads, in order to serve and measure them.
  • ClassicRift does not receive your name, email or any other identifying information from advertisers, and does not share your account email with them.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings, and out of personalised advertising by many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices or the NAI opt-out. Opting out means the ads you see are less relevant, not that they go away. Google's own description of what it collects as an advertising partner is at how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent before any personalised advertising cookie is set, through a consent dialog. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time using the privacy-settings link in the site footer.

Cookies used on this site

  • Essential: if you sign in, a session cookie keeps you authenticated and protects account features. It is not used for advertising or to track you across other websites, and it cannot be turned off without breaking sign-in.
  • Advertising: set by Google as described above, subject to your consent where the law requires it.
  • Analytics: set by Google Analytics so that several page views by the same browser are counted as one visit rather than several. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland it is not set unless you agree to it in the consent dialog; without that agreement the visit is still counted, but anonymously and without any cookie.
  • Local storage: the guide editor keeps an in-progress draft in your own browser so you don't lose work. That never leaves your device until you save the guide.

Third-party ad frames from Google and the Google Analytics tag are the only embedded content that runs by default; a guide may also embed a YouTube video, and that player is only loaded after you click play.

Analytics

ClassicRift uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages actually get read, so that effort goes into the parts of the site people use. It measures traffic; it is not used to build a profile of you.

  • It records the pages you view here, the site or search that referred you, and your device, browser and language.
  • It works out an approximate location from your IP address. That is never precise, and the address itself is not kept.
  • It is never given your name, email address or username, and your ClassicRift account is not linked to it. Nobody running this site can pick an individual reader out of it.
  • ClassicRift does not use its Analytics data to target advertising, and does not share it with advertisers.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, no analytics cookie is set until you agree to it in the consent dialog, and you can change that choice at any time using the privacy-settings link in the site footer. Google's own account of what it collects here is at how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out of Google Analytics on every site with Google's browser add-on.

Aggregate traffic figures also come from hosting-level request logs and from Google Search Console, neither of which identifies individual visitors.

How long data is kept

Account data is kept for as long as your account exists. Published guides and comments stay up until you delete them or your account. An uploaded image that a moderator rejects is deleted immediately.

Children

ClassicRift is not directed at children under 13 and accounts are not knowingly created for them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account here, email sushihour@classicrift.com and it will be removed.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal data held about you, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, email sushihour@classicrift.com. There is no form to fill in and no fee.

Deleting your data

Want your account gone? Contact us at sushihour@classicrift.com and we'll delete it, along with your email address and drafts. Say in the same message whether you want your published guides and comments taken down as well, and they will be.

Changes to this policy

The date at the top of this page says when it last changed. Material changes will be noted on the site rather than made quietly.
