Statchecker Sion - Basic AD bruiser build
StandardSion Top by Alikar — updated Aug 1, 2026
Rightclick and hope for the best, a statchecker dosen't need mechanics
Item Build
Starting Items
you start with 475gthe 3 options are good, personally I don't like doran's shield that much but against autoattack heavy champions it's good.
Flask is great against Pantheon who will run out of mana after a few Qs
Core Build
DON'T BUILD TANK ITEMS
Build
Avarice Blade early, be a greedy goblin
You'll want
Ravenous Hydra as your first item, it provides waveclear and the AOE benefits from Sion's
Cannibalism (R) lifesteal.
Atma's Impaler provides an absurd amount of stats for how cheap it is, plus it benefits from
Enrage (E)
After those 2 core items you can flex the build depending on the enemy team, personally I like going
Phage into
Frozen Mallet beacuse it makes it super hard for people to run away.
Flex Items
Situational items, feel free to disagree but this is why I like them
Trinity Force - You already want
Phage so you can upgrade it to trinity later.
Infinity Edge - you already have 25% Crit from Trinity and Atma's so why not?
Youmuu's Ghostblade - Mobility and good stats, good to engage
Zephyr - good stats, mobility and allows to buy Swiftness instead of Mercury's
Mercurial Scimitar/
Maw of Malmortius - Good against heavy ap, Malmortius counters
Demacian Justice (R)
Blade of The Ruined King /
Madred's Bloodrazor - I haven't tested these, they seem okay if the enemy team has too many tanks.
Blade of The Ruined King gives you mobility.
Boots
Most of the time you'll want
Mercury's Treads or
Boots of Swiftness depending on the kind of CC the enemy has.
Ninja Tabi are a good option against heavy aouto attack teams.
Only buy
Berserker's Greaves if the enemy team is low cc and you are feed
Bait items, don't buy
Sion is not a tank. These are some of the most common items I've seen Sions build and underperform.
Warmog's Armor is part of the classic Metagolem build, I though it was good, but it isen't.
Warmog's Armor is too expensive and flat health is not what you want overall the oportunity cost is not worth it.
Sunfire Cape again, sion needs AD to survive, your waveclear will come from
Ravenous Hydra.
Thornmail /
Force of Nature these might have their place against certain teamcomps, but overall they don't provide you with the stats you need so I would avoid them 99% of times

Introduction
I've seen too many people building tank Sion and that's just not what Sion wants to be, Sion is the original drain tank, your way of tanking is with lifesteal.
All in with
Cannibalism (R) at lvl 6 if you can, 6-9 you are really strong with how much stats you get from
Enrage (E) and
Cannibalism (R)
Once you have
Ravenous Hydra you become really hard to kill so push, push, push, fight, fight, fight
It can be hard to play teamfights later on, try to flank the enemy team rather than being the frontline and trying to engage, if you get zooned out you'll be dead before you can reach anyone and heal.
Hope this guide is useful for people who are new to classic Sion, I'm not a great player so I'm sure it has a lot of issues but it should be a good starting point. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T BUILD TANK.

What do you think about Wriggles Lantern as a starting item? I acknowledge the power of Hydra, but wonder if the 2000g spike of Lantern might be a good option.
I'm guilty of having bad results on both the metagolem build and tank sion, going to try this out and see if it works better for me. I believe: Old Warmog's in Season 1 at one point had +30 Health Regen / 5 sec (compared to the +10/5s we have right now) Atmog's used to give Attack Damage equal to 2% of your maximum Health (gives 1.5% currently) Enrage seems to be the same permanent +health per kill values as they were originally, so that's good. The item power levels could be why tank with Atma's is feeling so weak, great guide btw.

Initially I was playing the classic metagolem with warmog as well, and did ok in some games, but once you replace the warmog with hydra I swear Sion starts feeling muhc more powerful. I also found some old reddit posts talking about how when chronoshift was available players discovered that metagolem wasen't that good of a build with the current player knoledge making games a bit faster, and honestly I think that might be true. Thank you for the comment, glad you liked the guide! goodluck on the rift.
