Item Build
Starting Items
you start with 475g
Can also start greedy with an Amp Tome or more defensive with Dorans Shield.
Core Build
The only real core item is Sheen. You Max W and trade with W into Sheen-proc while they are flying away. Do that until they are low enough for you to all in with ult (they will usually already seek the deceiving safety of their tower at that point).
Maximum Damage
Optional, but usually viable as you should have stomped lane.
Tank Items
GA is great value, leaving you with one optional tank item depending on the opposing team comp.

Introduction
Alistar top is one of the strongest laners there's ever been.
If the enemy top is melee you will win 100%.
Early Game
You headbutt them away and proc Sheen mid-air. Every time it's up.
Make sure to utilize your passive for waveclear, but also be mindful of not accidentally breaking a freeze with it.
Should someone try to engage a fight on their terms they get knocked up and then knocked back. Alistar gets to choose which fights to take.
Towers offer your opposing laner no protection after level 6 anymore.
Teamfights
Outside of lane things get more tricky, as Alistar doesn't handle range and CC particularly well, but having two items usually is enough to burst a squishy with a flash engage or mess up a whole team on a good flank.
The one thing to avoid after lane is the one that makes the laning so good: walking up and just using W. Ult will help you in sticky situations, but you have to remember you're full damage and can be deleted quickly without ult.
