Starting Items

you start with 475g
Crystalline FlaskHealth PotionMana Potion

To compensate for your weak early-game and expensive mana costs, start out with a Crystalline Flask. You should also buy at least one Health Potion and Mana Potion unless you have Total Biscuit of Rejuvenation.

The degree to which you set aside some of your starting gold to buy later items instead of potions depends on the difficulty of your matchup and the flavour of your greed.

Your First Few Recalls

Boots of SpeedCatalyst the ProtectorSight Ward

Singed needs movement speed in the early-game to widen proxy windows and evade ganks. On account of this, I recommend building Boots of Speed after your first recall.

After this, build Catalyst the Protector to take advantage of its Contemplation passive as early as possible.

The choice between upgrading Boots of Speed and completing Rod of Ages will vary by game depending on your matchup and recall timings.

Additionally, between proxying waves, you should aim to place a Sight Ward on enemy jungle camps if you do not have access to Yellow Trinket or Explorer's Ward.

Core Build

Rod of AgesRylai's Crystal ScepterLiandry's Torment

This trifecta represents the holy trinity of Singed itemisation.

Rod of Ages is the perfect starting item for Singed as it amplifies his scaling identity and provides him with enough mana to be self-sufficient. Following up with Rylai's Crystal Scepter allows you to slow enemies with Poison Trail (Q), which amplifies the Mana Burn passive of Liandry's Torment.

Situational Items

Shurelya's ReverieTwin ShadowsAbyssal ScepterZhonya's HourglassFrozen HeartForce of NatureRabadon's Deathcap

After you have built your core items, Shurelya's Reverie and Twin Shadows will both enhance your team-fighting more than any other item by providing your team with engage/disengage tools.

Your fifth item should increase your durability as you should already have sufficient damage and utility. At this point, durability is best increased via resistances because Empowered Bulwark (P) and your core items provide you enough HP. That being said, always remember...

Rabadon's Deathcap is never bad.

Summoner Spells

GhostTeleportGhostFlash

Ghost is the best Summoner Spell for Singed because it can be used whilst proxy-farming to escape the enemy Top-Laner and/or Jungler until you can either execute to a tower or recall. Furthermore, Singed does not have any blinks or dashes so your mobility is centred primarily upon your ability to run at or away from the enemy. Given this, I recommend you use Ghost every game, which leads to a choice between Teleport and Flash.

Because Singed is a very weak laner, Teleport allows you to survive difficult matchups whereas Flash should only be chosen in easy matchups. Whilst Flash amplifies your skirmishing and team-fighting, Teleport compliments your proxy-farming playstyle and provides you with more macro gameplay options.

Skill Order

Poison Trail(Q)Fling(E)Mega Adhesive(W)
123456789101112131415161718
Poison Trail
Mega Adhesive
Fling
Insanity Potion

Increasing the damage dealt by Poison Trail (Q) allows you to wave-clear faster which provides you with wider proxy-farming windows and increases the amount of time available between and after proxy-farming. You should therefore prioritise maxing this skill first before Fling (E) and Mega Adhesive (W). It should be noted that Poison Trail (Q) de-spawns upon death.

Maxing Mega Adhesive (W) next can be effective against ranged matchups to close the gap or mitigate harassment. However, increasing the damage dealt by Fling (E) is usually better as it allows you to proxy-farm cannon waves faster and kill jungle camps (or the enemy Jungler) quicker.

Runes

  • 9× Mark of Magic Penetrationmark
  • 9× Seal of Healthseal
  • 9× Glyph of Ability Powerglyph
  • 3× Quintessence of Movement Speedquint
+10.8 Ability Power+72 Health+9 Magic Penetration+4.5% Movement Speed

You may want to replace these runes with Glyphs of Magic Resist or Seals of Armor if the enemy team composition is skewed towards one damage-type. In more difficult matchups, you may also want to use Quintessences of Ability Power to compensate for your weak laning phase.

UTILITY: 29

Nimble is the best capstone Mastery for Singed and, outside of Pickpocket, the other Masteries in the Utility tree are also very effective. Against difficult matchups; you may need to replace the Strength of Spirit, Expanded Mind and Wanderer Masteries in the Utility tree with the Perserverance, Durability and Hardiness/Resistance masteries in the Defense tree.

Always use Summoner's Wrath to increase the movement speed provided by Ghost.

Introduction

To effectively pilot Singed, you must first understand his identity. Primarily, Singed is a scaling team-fighter. Almost everything you do as Singed should be done with this identity in-mind.

Above all else, remember this: whilst rule #1 of League of Legends is "never chase Singed", rule #1 of Singed is "never fight without Insanity Potion (R)".

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Proxying

  • Scaling

  • Team-Fighting

  • Roaming

Cons:

  • Laning

  • Dueling

  • Easily-Kited

Early-Game

It can be very tempting to proxy the first minion wave. Unless you know where the enemy champions are at Level 1 or your team has invaded with you, I do not recommend it. Most Singed matchups allow you gain priority in lane by quickly wave-clearing with Poison Trail (Q) to secure faster level-ups.

The easiest way to crash your wave into the enemy tower is to build two allied minion waves and then wave-clear the enemy minions with Poison Trail (Q). For the first few levels, your wave-clear is better than any other champion in the game. Use this to your advantage to initiate a proxy.

Proxying

Once you have crashed your minions into the enemy tower, you should aim to proxy-farm (or proxy) the next enemy minion wave between the enemy towers. You might not be able to simply walk past the enemy Top-Laner to achieve this, especially if they are playing a champion such as Olaf who can chase and kill you in an extended fight. Therefore, the directness of your pathing towards a proxy will depend heavily on your matchup.

If you kill the enemy minions quickly after they meet your minions, however, you will always have enough time to run into the river and through the enemy jungle to proxy the next enemy minion wave. This means you do not necessarily have to crash your minions into the enemy tower, you just have to kill the enemy minions quickly.

If you are playing against such a difficult matchup that you cannot wave-clear the enemy minion wave without dying, it may be best to skip it shortly after it meets your minions. If you leave your lane in this way, you will always have enough time to run into the river and through the enemy jungle to proxy the next enemy minion wave. This mitigates the harassment you would otherwise receive from the difficult matchup and can be the difference between you feeding the enemy Top-Laner and you being slightly weaker than them.

Life After Proxying

So you proxied a wave... Congratulations! Now what? Far more impactful than simply proxying a wave is what you do between or after proxying waves. Your ability to steal enemy jungle camps, ward jungle pathways and roam are perhaps the main determinants for your win-rate on Singed.

Proxying gives you tempo. And, simple enough, you can spend that tempo to recall and get an item advantage. But, ask yourself in those moments, is there more that I can do with this tempo? Most of the time, the answer to that question will be "no" but when the answer is "yes", you will be glad you asked.

If you don't know where the enemy Jungler is: ward their camps between proxying. If both Mid-Laners are low: proxy a wave and roam Mid. If the enemy Bot-Laners keeps sieging your bot tower: proxy deep, recall and lane-gank them before teleporting back Top. Proxying allows Top-Laners to affect the map in the early-game and Singed is the best proxy-farmer in the game. Play accordingly.

Mid-Game

Once you have upgraded your Boots of Speed and built Rylai's Crystal Scepter, you should be looking to crash your minions into the enemy tower before roaming to team fights. Depending on the matchup, you may not be able to safely crash your minions into the enemy tower. In this instance, you should use your judgement to determine which team fights are worth potentially sacrificing your tower to join.

The worst place for Singed to be in during the mid-game is stuck under an allied tower farming minions whilst being harassed by the enemy Top-Laner. Sometimes, you might just have to take a gamble and let your tower be destroyed in the hopes of initiating a winning team fight. It is better to have dared and done wrong than die slowly.

Team Fights

In team fights, you should aim to apply Poison Trail (Q) to as many targets as possible whilst peeling your team's priority targets or diving the enemy team's priority targets based on the game state.

Keep in mind that once you have applied Poison Trail (Q) to several targets, it is often best to kite outside of their range for the duration of the damage-over-time effect. You can utilise Ghost and Insanity Potion (R) to bait enemies into your Poison Trail (Q) in this way.

Depending on your team's composition, you will need to team-fight differently. If you are the secondary engage for your team, it can be extremely effective to flank the enemy team as this will create pincer movements on enemy priority targets.

If you are the primary engage for your team, however, you should be wary of flanking as it may provide the enemy with backline access to your team's priority targets. Furthermore, if your Poison Trail (Q) is toggled on as you run from your team towards the enemy, any counter-engage onto your team's priority targets will be made through your Poison Trail (Q).

Matchups

You will learn these in due time, as will I.
