Item Build

Starting Items

you start with 475g

You can choose whichever pots you want.

Mana pots are better, since your shield serves as a "soft hp pot".

Core Build

Deathfire and Mejais can be purchased in any order. If I'm getting a lot of roams I'll grab Mejais.

If I have 1,600 gold, I will always go for the Needlessly Large Rod

Sorceror Boots vs Mobility Boots is entirely preference. Some games I prefer one over the other. Your choice, try them both at least once though.

Late Game Items

I typically run these items in this order. Lich Bane is good when you get some AP, and Deathcap will really help you reach that threshold.

I would only sell the Mejais if you're failing to stack it into the late game, as that item is very strong.

Super Flex

If you do not use Scaling CDR in your rune page, you can run Morellinomicon as a 5th or 6th item. I highly recommend getting 40% CDR.

If you do use CDR in your Rune Page, you can skip Morellinomicon and grab a Flex Item instead, and buy a Blue Potion to finish off the 40% CDR.

You need NO other CDR items with Deathfire Grasp except the Blue Potion.

Introduction

Runes:
CDR Scaling Runes is the most valuable, since that stat is hard to come by. You can easily get 40% CDR with those runes + masteries and a blue pot. I highly recommend it.

If you just want raw damage, scaling AP is really good too.

Flat HP on Yellows is good for early durability, but you're absolutely OK with taking Mana Regen, Armor, or even Gold per 10.

Masteries:
I recommend getting the standard 21 points in offense, and then choosing based on play style, whether you want the Mana Regen or the extra Movement Speed out of combat. It is entirely preference. Highly suggest you get the 1 second recall too.

Gameplay:
Shove the wave with your maxed out W, then roam and get kills on bot lane. Do not use Q on the enemy, unless you're getting an early gank. Trust me.

Leveling E at 4 is possible so that you can CS a little better and gain some extra HP, but skipping E and R to just max out Q and W is entirely fine. This is because E only gives 1 HP per CS, its pretty minor until you level it up.

Max out W first because its the primary skill you'll use in lane, its very mana efficient and helps push.

Do not overextend into fights, its better to weave in and out, because if they break your shield you're dead. You're more of a ranged AP fighter than an AP Bruiser.
